This position is locally funded.

Consideration for directly related experience supported by an official service record or experience affidavit. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.

 

Position Summary

To coordinate and direct activities, supervise instruction, administer budget, and direct the curriculum of the music, theater arts, and art programs throughout the district.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in arts related field.
  • Three (3) years teaching experience in fine arts.
  • Three (3) years leadership experience in fine arts.
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of supervisor experience.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of overall operations of music, art, and theater programs.
  • Knowledge of state policies governing extracurricular events and participation. 
  • Ability to coordinate district functions.
  • Ability to develop and manage programs and budgets.
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, evaluation, revision and alignment of fine arts curriculum in the areas of instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, and drama/theater arts.
  • Serve as the District contact on all extracurricular matters surrounding the fine arts.
  • Direct, organize, and coordinate the development of new and/or innovative fine arts programs districtwide.
  • Work with all fine art teachers on educational and administrative procedural needs of their program.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all fine arts equipment for each school in the district.
  • Plan and manage districtwide fine arts activities and maintain an up-to-date calendar of events for all activities.
  • Work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Professional Development to arrange professional development, workshops, clinics, and staff meetings designed to improve instruction.
  • Administer the fine arts department budget and ensure that programs are cost effective, and funding is managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Assist principals regarding fine arts budgeting, purchasing, and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with all University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Music Educators Association fine arts rules and policies.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board for Educator Certification rules, and local board policy.
  • Recommend sound policies to improve the overall fine arts program.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection and training of personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
  • Assist with the implementation of the designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district’s mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Participate as a member of the curriculum department.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Comply with all district routines and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions

 

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and instructional equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent walking, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.
Lifting: Occasional moderate and carrying (less than 45 pounds).
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

• Supervise assigned staff.
