What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communication 101- Academic GA position at Bob Jones University?
POSITION SUMMARY: The graduate assistant hired for this position will be responsible for teaching 3 sections of Com 101 (9 classroom hours per week). In preparation for teaching, this graduate assistant will construct and submit lesson plans on a weekly basis to his/her supervisor. This graduate assistant will be fully responsible for teaching all course content, grading all speech projects and written work, and meeting with students outside of class who need additional assistance. This is a 9-month GA position starting August 2026. This 30-hour Academic GA position is available to those pursuing post-graduate studies at Bob Jones University.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of public speaking strategies
- Effective oral communication and presentation skills
- Interpersonal communication skills
- Organization and time management
- Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback
- Willingness to receive coaching and implement feedback
- Professionalism and relatability with undergraduate students
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and ability to use Canvas
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare lesson plans aligned with course objectives
- Teach course content according to department curriculum
- Evaluate speeches and written assignments using established rubrics
- Maintain accurate grade records
- Meet individually with students for coaching and assistance
- Mentor students in communication skill development
- Respond to student communication in a timely manner
- Participate in training, observation, and supervisory meetings

This GA position is available only to those pursuing post-graduate studies at Bob Jones University. Eligibility is based on the condition of having met the academic requirements for a student enrolled in a graduate program. To retain employment, you must be registered for and complete coursework for 6 to 10 credit hours each fall and spring semester.
