JOB TITLE: Bilingual SPED Clerk

REPORTS TO: Special Education Program Director

DEPT. / SCHOOL: Administration / Bob Hope School / District Wide

WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Full Time/12 Months

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  

Provide clerical services to the special education staff to include performing data entry, organizing, managing, and coordinating required case management documentation of Special Education students.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education:  

High school diploma or GED; AA/AS or a minimum of 60 college credit hours preferred. 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:  

  • Special education experience preferred.
  • One or more years of office experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written Spanish language skills.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing.
  • Proficient keyboarding, file maintenance, multitasking skills
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.

 

Experience: 

No prior experience required. 

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES  

 

  1. Assist ARD Facilitator and Special Education department staff to meet departmental needs.
  2. Perform a variety of clerical activities, including compiling pertinent data utilizing spreadsheets, word documents, etc.
  3. Request student records from previous schools using a variety of methods.
  4. Create student audit folders; organize, maintain physical or computerized departmental files and records.
  5. Efficiently function in a multi-task environment and complete work independently.
  6. Answer phone, greet and direct visitors, take and relay messages; provide routine information to students, parents, administration, and faculty for special education department.
  7. Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
  8. Assist with health services provided on campus such as vision, hearing, spinal screenings, etc.
  9. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, campus directors, and teachers.
  10. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  11. Use effective expressive and written communication skills to present information accurately, clearly and professionally.
  12. Translate both written and verbal communication from English to Spanish and Spanish to English as needed.
  13. Schedule appointments as necessary.
  14. Participate in scheduled SPED staff meetings, regular staff meetings, trainings and in-services as requested.
  15. Participate and attend occasional trainings/meetings/conferences after school hours as requested.
  16. Adhere to and follow FERPA, HIPAA as well as state and federal regulations.
  17. Perform tasks assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
  18. Always maintain confidentiality.
  19. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Equipment Used:

Computer with appropriate software, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress.

  1. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and minor lifting.

  4. Occasional moderate lifting.

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education.  Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus.  Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Baytown, Texas.  The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
