REPORTS TO: Campus Director

WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Full Time/12 months

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position will substantially and effectively provide assistance with monitoring the school district discipline throughout the entire day.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • 60 earned college credit hours minimum

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Student Management/Discipline

  1. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods to ensure the safety of all by making physical walk-throughs in hallways, restrooms, etc. on campus. 
  2. Assist with supervision of all school activities.
  3. Develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  4. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  5. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  6. Monitor and work with the students who are excessively absent, using school district policies for attendance.
  7. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  8. Aid the Counselor, who is responsible for scheduling, to ensure the master schedule is developed and maintained to meet the needs of the students.
  9. Assist in the establishment of any codes of conduct necessary and other behavioral programs deemed necessary.
  10. Instruct teachers in techniques of engaging students and disciplining of students; establishes a suitable system of referrals to the office, handling disciplinary matters in a manner in keeping with the policies of the school.
  11. Supervise the conduct of students at school during the school day.
  12. Maintain necessary records of disciplinary actions.
  13. Assist in arranging, either directly or through assignment, contacts with juvenile court and other agencies involved in carrying out attendance responsibilities and other matters of student discipline and/or requiring use of legal authorities.
  14. Work with designated staff in making necessary contacts with parents in carrying out attendance responsibilities.
  15. Prepare all disciplinary records and reports required by state law.
  16. Assist with the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a safe, disciplined environment.
  17. Enforce and establish disciplinary procedures which allows due process to the rights of students; familiarizes students, staff, and parents with the disciplinary procedures; hears and acts on behavior problems; compiles annual discipline report; assists in the annual revision of the Student Handbook.
  18. Assist Campus Director with identifying and recommending necessary revisions for the student and teacher handbooks to the C.A.O.
  19. Advise parents, administrators and other staff regarding student discipline.
  20. Identify resources, models and best practices for improving student discipline and school climate.
  21. Perform other dutiesas assigned.

Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education.  Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus.  Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Baytown, Pasadena, and Cy-Fair Texas.  The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
