Position Summary
The Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences through friendly, efficient service while preparing high-quality beverages in a fast-paced waterfront restaurant and event venue. This position plays a vital role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests, maintaining a clean and organized bar, and supporting the overall success of restaurant and banquet operations.
Key Areas of AccountabilityGuest Experience & Hospitality
- Welcome every guest with a friendly, upbeat, and professional attitude.
- Deliver exceptional service while creating memorable guest experiences.
- Build relationships with regular guests and encourage repeat business.
- Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns promptly and professionally.
- Work collaboratively with servers and kitchen staff to ensure seamless service.
Beverage Service
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to recipes and standards.
- Verify guest identification and ensure compliance with all New York State liquor laws.
- Maintain knowledge of beer, wine, liquor, cocktails, and seasonal drink offerings.
- Make beverage recommendations and upsell premium products and specials.
- Monitor guest alcohol consumption and practice responsible alcohol service.
Bar Operations
- Set up and stock the bar before each shift.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of all bar areas.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs.
- Accurately process guest orders through the POS system.
- Handle cash, credit card transactions, and daily reconciliation with accuracy.
Restaurant & Event Support
- Support banquet, catering, and private event beverage service.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Work efficiently during high-volume periods while maintaining service standards.
- Help maintain dining room cleanliness and assist teammates when needed.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health department regulations and food safety guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with New York State liquor laws and company policies.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
- Report equipment issues or maintenance concerns promptly.
Qualifications
- Previous bartending experience preferred (restaurant or high-volume environment).
- Knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and classic cocktails.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
- Positive attitude with a team-first mindset.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- TIPS or comparable alcohol service certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience with POS systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to safely transport trays, kegs, cases of beverages, and bar supplies.
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, holidays, and outdoor service areas.
