Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Canine Handler to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dog handling and animal care, ensuring the well-being and safety of our canine companions. This role involves working closely with dogs in various settings, providing care, training, and support while maintaining a positive environment for both the animals and their owners.
The ideal candidate will be offered a part-time position starting at $15/h for the first three months to then, if the candidate is succesfull, received an increase in Wage based on performance and certifications plus the oportunity to move to a more full time position that will lead to health insurance and paid vacations.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for dogs, including feeding, grooming, and exercise.
- Handle dogs safely and kindly.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to Manager.
- Assist in training sessions, reinforcing positive behaviors and cues.
- Maintain cleanliness in kennels and play areas to ensure a safe environment for all animals.
- Engage with pet owners, providing excellent customer service and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Collaborate with team members to develop enrichment activities for the dogs.
- Perform heavy lifting as needed when handling large breeds or moving equipment.
Requirements
- Be comfortable working around reactive and aggressive dogs.
- Proven experience in dog handling or related fields such as veterinary assistance or kennel work.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and manage physically demanding tasks throughout the day.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly demeanor towards pet owners.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing high-quality care.
- Previous experience in pet grooming or veterinary settings is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding that we are here for the dogs and not the other way around.
The Shifts we would need to fill are the following:
Mondays 8am-3:30pm, Tuesdays 8am-3:30pm and Saturdays 6-9pm. Possibly more hours will become available.
