Position Overview:
BNY is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant III – Finance to join our Client Onboarding / Conversions team. This role is integral to ensuring the accurate, efficient, and compliant processing of finance activities in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley, regulatory requirements, local and consolidated GAAP, and internal controls.
As part of the Record to Report (R2R) process, this individual will support accounting operations from transaction recording through close, consolidation, and external financial reporting. In addition to performing core accounting functions, the Accountant III will play a key role in client onboarding, conversions, static data mapping, and standardizing reporting on the BNYM accounting platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support onboarding of new clients by aligning client data with BNY Mellon systems and standards.
- Collaborate with Trades, Reconciliation, Valuation, Client Onboarding, and Technology Support teams to ensure seamless integration and high-quality service delivery.
- Foot ledgers to subsidiary ledgers for all funds prior to conversion onto BNYM's accounting platform.
- Standardize client reporting during intake using approved tools and technologies.
- Review and validate static data mapping to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
- Communicate with clients and third parties to enhance the quality and clarity of client instructions.
- Support accurate Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations for assigned funds during each measurement cycle.
- Perform moderately complex accounting tasks including:
- Preparing and posting journal entries.
- Performing accruals and adjustments.
- Reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Ensuring the trial balance is accurate and reflects correct financial transactions.
- Provide support for audits, regulatory inquiries, ad-hoc reporting requests, and special projects.
- Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Ensure all financial processes comply with SOX and other regulatory frameworks.
- Apply technical accounting guidance in alignment with global process standards.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting processes and workflows.
- Participate in system implementations and upgrades (ERP and R2R tools).
- Track and report performance metrics at the functional, team, and individual level.
- Take part in rotation assignments across business lines, legal entities, and regions to gain exposure to BNYM’s diverse operations and compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Master’s degree or CPA certification is a plus.
- 6–9 years of relevant work experience in accounting or finance, preferably in financial services or public accounting.
- Solid understanding of the full accounting cycle, from transaction through consolidation and financial reporting.
- Experience working with accounting systems, such as PeopleSoft, and ERP/R2R tools.
