Responsibilities
- Safely operate a range of commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, and roll-off trucks, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Plan and execute route driving using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and efficiency.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment like forklifts, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including manual transmission operation and truck maintenance checks.
- Manage logistics cargo handling processes for freight delivery, including securing loads on flatbeds or roll-off trucks as needed.
- Deliver freight accurately to various destinations while providing exceptional customer service during drop-offs and pickups.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, delivery records, and incident reports in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates or issues encountered during deliveries.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL license with endorsements for various vehicle types such as tractor-trailer, tanker, flatbed, or refrigerated trailer.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driver roles.
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission vehicles and familiarity with manual handling techniques.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time navigation adjustments.
- Ability to load & unload freight safely using equipment like forklifts or manual handling methods; experience with freight involving dangerous goods is a plus.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling procedures for various types of freight including refrigerated goods, hazardous materials, or heavy equipment like dump trucks or roll-off trucks.
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safety compliance and adherence to all traffic laws.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks related to load securing and cargo handling; must be able to lift heavy items when necessary.
