Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller specialized in Commercial and Industrial Construction industry accounting to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting (GAAP, financial reporting, GL, month-end close, budgeting), analytical & problem-solving skills, software proficiency (ERP, Excel), and leadership/communication abilities to manage staff and report to executives, ensuring accuracy and compliance while guiding financial strategy. Key skills include financial statement prep, audit support, forecasting, team management, and regulatory knowledge.
Duties
- Lead and coordinate all accounting functions related to construction projects, including project cost analysis and revenue recognition.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including financial statements, regulatory reports, and management reports.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and other regulatory requirements pertinent to construction and non-profit sectors.
- Supervise month-end and year-end closing processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee cash management activities including forecasting, banking relationships, and liquidity management.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.
- Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other financial management tools to streamline processes.
- Support budgeting activities, financial analysis, and forecasting to aid strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits and ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting standards.
- Provide leadership in technical accounting issues related to construction projects, governmental grants, or non-profit funding sources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Proven experience in corporate accounting within the construction industry or similar sectors such as government or non-profit organizations.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, governmental accounting standards, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong technical skills in financial concepts including double-entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, debits & credits.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or equivalent financial management tools. Knowledge of "Foundation Software" a PLUS
- Demonstrated ability in financial report writing, cash management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical skills with a solid understanding of general ledger accounting and account analysis.
- Experience managing accounts payable/receivable processes and payroll functions is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
