In This Role
You will support a product engineering and data insights team responsible for delivering next-generation productivity and AI-powered experiences. Your focus will be validating telemetry generated by product features, ensuring high-quality instrumentation, and enabling accurate downstream analytics. You will partner closely with developers, data engineers, and product managers to ensure features are properly instrumented, telemetry adheres to preferred patterns, and automated validation frameworks continue to evolve. This role blends QA, debugging, data validation, and light development to improve product reliability and customer experience.
Responsibilities
Telemetry Validation & Testing
- Review telemetry design documents and ensure proposed instrumentation follows preferred patterns.
- Interpret and debug JavaScript/TypeScript code to validate instrumentation in product features.
- Perform white-box testing to confirm expected telemetry events fire correctly.
- Validate telemetry outputs from applications and ensure they conform to schema and business rules.
- File issues for discrepancies, track fixes with developers, and re-validate once resolved.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Learn feature functionality and expected UX flows to perform accurate validation.
- Work with data and analytics teams to onboard new telemetry into downstream data systems.
- Validate that onboarded telemetry is complete, accurate, and available for reporting.
Automation & Process Improvements
- Design and develop automated telemetry validation and monitoring tools to reduce manual work.
- Support development of internal testing utilities (C#, Java, Python, JS/TS).
- Create internal guidance and best practices for implementing high-quality telemetry patterns.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- 2 years in Testing or Quality Assurance (UI testing, white-box testing, or feature validation).
- 2 years developing applications or services using C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Strong debugging capability with JS/TS code instrumentation.
- Proficiency with application logs, telemetry pipelines, and event-driven data validation.
- Experience querying data using SQL, SCOPE, or similar query tools.
Tools & Platforms
- Strong proficiency using enterprise productivity applications (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience with issue-tracking systems (Azure DevOps, Jira, GitHub, etc.).
Other Requirements
- Ability to work hybrid due to access to specialized devices, prototypes, or labs.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills; ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing large-scale or cloud-based productivity or communication applications.
- Familiarity with telemetry pipelines, event schemas, or schema validation frameworks.
- Experience designing automated validation tools or QA automation frameworks.
- Exposure to AI-driven features or conversational/assistant experiences.
- Ability to collaborate with product teams, engineering teams, and data science groups.
Salary Range
Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including, without limitation, skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $80,000 to $85,000 USD annually. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
