Position Summary

The Theatre Program Recruiter and Artistic Assistant at Bluefield University supports the Theatre Program’s growth and vitality. This position combines recruiting and artistic duties, engaging with regional high schools and community colleges to attract new students while creatively contributing to university theatre productions. The role demonstrates Bluefield University’s commitment to promoting the performing arts and inspiring future theatre students to pursue their creative aspirations within a Christ-centered learning environment.

Recruitment Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent Bluefield University’s Theatre Program and the Communication Arts – Theatre Concentration at area high schools, community colleges, and community events.
  • Conduct engaging workshops, classroom presentations, and performance demonstrations to attract and inform prospective students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with theatre educators, guidance counselors, and community theatre organizations to enhance recruitment pipelines.
  • Assist the Admissions and Communication Arts teams in developing marketing materials, digital content, and outreach strategies for theatre recruitment.
  • Provide reports on recruitment activities and prospective student engagement.

Artistic Assistant Responsibilities

  • Serve as assistant director and/or choreographer for Bluefield University Theatre and Bluefield Youth and Community Theatre productions.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and community members to support creative direction, staging, and rehearsal processes.
  • Participate in production planning meetings and contribute to the season’s artistic vision.
  • Assist with auditions, casting, and coordination of student performers.
  • Support theatre events, performances, and outreach efforts as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Communication Arts, or related field required
  • Demonstrated experience in theatre direction, choreography, or performing arts education.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage students and educators effectively.
  • Willingness to travel regionally for recruitment events.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of Bluefield University and its Christ-centered educational philosophy.

Working Conditions

  • Part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required for rehearsals and performances.
  • Regional travel for recruitment and outreach is expected.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to operate a computer terminal; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally requires to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to forty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Appropriate driving license is required with this position.

Specialized Equipment Requirements

This position requires no specialized equipment other than equipment typically used in a modern office environment, including personal computers, calculators, copiers, and fax machines.

Working Conditions and Environment

This position has no specific working conditions; the work environment is typical to that of a small private residential institution of higher education.

Performance Standards
