    Position Summary:

    The Digital Media Specialist will grow BSSD’s digital media communications by editing, producing, and distributing communications for internal and external audiences; creating content that supports key messages; and producing, recording, and editing projects to be featured on BSSD social media. The position is responsible for working collaboratively to plan and implement digital communications strategies and content to meet the needs of the communications department and support BSSD’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
    • This position reports to the Director of Public Relations
    • This position is a Full Time, benefits eligible position.
    • The salary range for this position is: $53,656 - $77,635. Salary will be commensurate with Full Time, parallel years of experience.
    Essential Functions:
    • Produce, record, and edit video projects to be featured at events and on social media and the website.
    • Develop and maintain day-to-day social media content including Facebook, X, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
    • Tell BSSD stories through written word, photography, and videography.
    • Create and update planning systems for social media, including editorial calendars to support key messages. Produce tracking reports to measure digital media and news media placement as it relates to strategic communications goals, key messages, and BSSD’s strategic plan.
    • Strategically evaluate the need for emerging digital communications and make ongoing recommendation for improvements.
    • Create, implement, and evaluate social media guidelines and provide training and support to schools and departments.
    • Develop and maintain day-to-day social media content including Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
    • Works independently on a variety of response needs, dealing with sensitive, confidential, and political matters.
    • Research appropriate responses to routine communications and requests for information; determines effective course of action to complete assignments, identify inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
    • Assist in coordinating district events (e.g., academic award banquets, annual teacher recruitment fair, school ceremonies, etc.) for the purpose of recognizing exemplary achievements and/or promoting excellence in education.
    • Maintains confidentiality (e.g., district information, staff/student information, data, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring information is provided only in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines, state, and federal laws.
    • Obtains input from supervisor to ensure designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, expresses ideas accurately and represents the district appropriately.
    • Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g., workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) for the purpose of networking, conveying, and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
    • Creates and maintains internal data for designs, photography, and video.
    • Research trends (e.g., education policies/procedures, economic/cultural issues, computer/software and facilities technologies, layout/design of publications, etc.) for the purpose of obtaining knowledge on current issues and advancement practices.
    • Responds to inquiries from various internal and external parties (e.g., district personnel, schools, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
    Other Functions:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: time management and organizational competency, operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate data; using pertinent software applications; operating photographic and audiovisual equipment; and analytical and technical expertise with graphic design.

    Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; safety practices and procedures; website HTML language; Adobe Print software; phone message system templates; cutter dicer machine; principles of copy writing, layout work, graphics, and desktop publishing; digital photo editing; web and print design; and techniques and methods of special events planning. Must have desire to continue building skill set with education and training.

    Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: excellent communication and presentation skills, adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working independently; working with detailed information/data; working with frequent interruptions; writing clearly and effectively in a variety of journalistic styles; researching new service delivery methods, procedures, and techniques; and exercising good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Thorough understanding of video production, photography, digital media, and online tools. Demonstrated experience with video production and editing techniques. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

    Knowledge of PC operations systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and related software. Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe Premiere Pro. Expertise with major social media platforms and extensive knowledge of current social media principles and trends. A thorough portfolio of work across graphic design, video editing, photography, and related disciplines is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

    Skilled in Typing, spelling, grammar, and proof reading; digital content creation platforms, social media management and tracking, RSS, and web platforms. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; organizing and maintaining records, providing effective customer service, and managing conflicts when necessary; working without direct supervision and adapting to changing priorities and a variety of needs from multiple departments. Planning, filming editing and publishing video productions is necessary. Innovative thinker with the ability to multitask in a challenging environment

    Responsibility:

    Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

    Work Environment:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 10% walking, and 15% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Video Production, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field preferred.

    Experience: Experience coordinating and organizing project activities and providing information and/or service to others and experience managing multiple social media accounts. Video production, filming and editing experience is necessary. Understanding of the power of social media and the positive impact it can have when managed properly and pragmatically.
