Job Description
Job Title: Mold Mechanic III
M-F Day Shift
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and produce mold components, including repairs and revisions, fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, nests, and other custom equipment required to support production.
- Maintain various types of molds by performing proper mold breakdown, cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
- Inspect molds and tooling components, perform precision measurements, and compare results to print specifications to determine wear.
- Prepare and operate a variety of machine tools, including but not limited to radial drill presses, lathes, milling machines, band saws, table saws, and sand blasters, to machine metal workpieces, typically on a custom basis.
- Fabricate advanced metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fit and assemble machined parts into complete units.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts.
- Measure, mark, and record dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
- Participate in the development and training of Mold Mechanics I and II.
- Adhere to and communicate health, safety, and quality policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Completion of a machinist apprenticeship or journeyman program, including measurement technique certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience using tool room equipment and performing tooling-related functions.
- At least 3 years of experience setting up and operating CNC mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, sand blasters, and other machining equipment.
- At least 3 years of experience using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, and metal properties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or trade school training in a related field.
- Experience using IQMS.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 certified environment.
Skills and Abilities
In addition to the qualifications of Mold Mechanic I and II:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- Ability to use measuring tools such as depth gauges, height gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and fellow employees.
- Ability to train and develop Mold Mechanics I and II, as well as other production associates as needed.
Physical Demands
- Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequent standing.
- Occasional walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 100 pounds with proper equipment or assistance.
- Close vision is required.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Work environment is typically loud.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
