This grant-funded staff position will oversee the National Science Foundation Scholarship STEM grant deliverables, including student success for all NSF S-STEM grant activities and deliverables The Project Manager position reports to the Dean of IT and Mathematics. This new position is largely responsible for organizing the efforts of the full grant team, ensuring recruitment and retention goals are met, and all reports are accurate and submitted on time. This position will manage the data and project management software, work closely with the college’s Foundation, Financial Aid, faculty mentors, and the Finance office.


This position requires a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who can communicate with clarity and meet reporting deadline performance goals as set forth in the college’s NSF S-STEM grant. This position will work collaboratively with all Blue Ridge CTC offices, with special emphasis on Computer Technology Programs, Engineering Programs, Lab Tech Programs, Finance Office, Financial Aid, Institutional Research, and Enrollment Management. 


Must be able to work independently at times, yet drive grant program and School of Workforce programs outcomes and deliverables. 


This position will maintain an office at the Technology Center; 8 am – 4:30 pm, M-F, with varying hours from time to time as may be required for grant meetings and related events. Some evenings or Saturdays may be required to support recruitment and STEM Club activities.


  • Oversees student recruitment, retention, and supports NSF Scholar cohort success.
  • Maintains a 75% completion rate for all NSF Scholar students who will either transfer into STEM degrees upon completion of their AAS degree, or obtain employment in the STEM related field. 
  • Organizes and assists the Dean with monthly NSF Scholar meetings and NSF grant leadership meetings. 
  • Oversees data reporting and financial management in collaboration with project leadership
  • Oversees financial reporting for S-STEM in collaboration with the Finance Office to track expenses and approve expenditures
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (Finance, college programs, Marketing) to ensure the project goals are achieved on time and within budget
  • Develop work plans, timelines, and deliverables for the S-STEM Grant throughout the grant cycle
  • Develop secure tracking and reporting tools to monitor student academic and career progress
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic grant files for college leadership and grant reporting purposes. 
  • Assist the grant counselors and other grant personnel with obtaining and documenting grant participant outcomes. 
  • Review participant progress and track participant use of academic support services
  • Conduct regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support grant performance goals.
  • Maintain accurate data tracking and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals, academic support, and opportunity programs 
  • Maintain a presence at all Blue Ridge CTC locations as needed and if required, to meet the grant performance goals. 
  • Serve as a member of assigned committees and task forces
  • Foster collaborative partnerships for the college with the community, especially business leaders and employers. 
  • Performs any other duties assigned to drive the College’s Vision, to fulfill the College’s Mission, and to abide by the College’s Values

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, or a related field is required. 
  • Master’s Degree preferred.


Experience

  • Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred. 
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in grant management is preferred
  • Experience working in education or human resources management with emphasis in training will be considered.
  • Experience working in industry or business will be considered. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proficient in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data; ability to enter, monitor, and interpret student data accurately
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of rapid growth and change 
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations verbally; experienced in PowerPoint and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to utilize MS Word and Excel and to implement Access data reports or similar data collection software 
  • Must be able to read financial spreadsheets, interpret results, and communicate with the Finance Department on invoicing. 
  • Ability to research, interpret, and analyze data is required.  
  • Ability to manage required grant reporting software
  • Ability to work independently with minimal clerical support
  • Familiarity with fiscal requirements of grants and budgets of sponsored projects 
  • Understanding of the organization of public higher education systems
  • Familiarity with issues faced by community college students, especially in rural settings 
  • Knowledgeable in student information systems (i.e., Banner) 
  • Must be detailed and deadline-oriented, with a solid background in program development, operations, management, and marketing 
  • Ability to analyze programs, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgement and decision-making processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators
  • Required to work a full 37.5 hours a week 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include early morning, evening hours or Saturdays (College recruitment events) 
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with attention to detail.
  • Must follow College policies and procedures.


Licensure/Certification Required: 

  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation to campus locations.
