What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct - Medical Assisting Faculty position at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College?
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Assisting professional to serve as a hands-on part-time instructor in our Medical Assisting program. This role plays a vital part in preparing students for real-world clinical environments by providing practical, skills-based instruction, and supervision in the lab and classroom settings.
- Prepare syllabus and course materials
- Instruct lectures and/or labs
- Prepare online course material to support instruction
- Keep attendance and grade reports
- Report mid-term and final grades by deadlines
Education
- HS Diploma required.
- 1 year certificate or associate’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of one year experience in Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, or healthcare related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Clinical Skills Instruction:
- Must be able to perform a manual blood pressure within 3 minutes
- Teach and demonstrate hands-on procedures such as manual vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, injections, specimen collection, and assisting with exams.
- Guide students through practicing and mastering clinical skills in a simulated lab environment.
- Lab Management:
- Set up, maintain, and organize the clinical lab with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Ensure a safe and clean learning environment that aligns with current healthcare standards and infection control protocols.
- Student Assessment & Support:
- Evaluate student competencies through performance-based assessments.
- Provide real-time feedback and support to help students improve and build confidence in their technical skills.
- Curriculum & Compliance:
- Collaborate with program faculty to align hands-on instruction with course objectives and accreditation standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, attendance, and skill check-offs.
- Professional Mentorship:
- Serve as a role model for professionalism in healthcare settings.
- Offer guidance on workplace readiness, soft skills, and job expectations for entry-level Medical Assistants.
- Key Competencies

- Ability to adapt to teaching methods to diverse learning styles

Licensure/Certification Required
- An active nationally recognized Medical Assisting certification required. RMA, CMA, RPT, or PBT (ASCP) certification preferred.
Adjunct pay dependent on degree level.
