Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, and Income Audit. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position ensures compliance with Blue Ocean Hotels' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
This role requires strong analytical and leadership skills to maintain accurate financial records, reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements, assist with budgeting and forecasting, prepare financial reports, and implement effective internal controls. The Accounting Manager works closely with department leaders to ensure accurate financial reporting and efficient accounting operations.
This is a remote position. The successful candidate will primarily work remotely but must be available during normal business hours and maintain reliable internet and communication capabilities. Travel of up to 10% may be required to visit hotel properties, attend meetings, participate in training sessions, conduct audits, or support special projects as business needs dictate.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate daily revenue reporting and ensure timely completion of all daily financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all accounting systems and ensure regular training, updates, and preventive maintenance are completed.
- Review and process monthly guest ledger and city ledger adjustments through appropriate journal entries.
- Verify ledger balances daily to ensure financial accuracy.
- Manage office supply purchasing while controlling departmental costs.
- Assist with monthly inventory reconciliations and pricing verification.
- Maintain working knowledge and oversight of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Audit, Payroll, and Cash Management functions.
- Review guest ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Supervise, train, mentor, schedule, and evaluate accounting team members.
- Coordinate departmental meetings and promote employee engagement and development.
- Participate in monthly accrual meetings with department managers.
- Prepare and review month-end journal entries and financial reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing monthly Profit & Loss statements and other financial reports.
- Foster positive working relationships between the Accounting Department and all hotel departments while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial packages for ownership and senior management.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Finance regarding departmental performance and operational issues.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
- Ensure accurate calculation, reporting, and timely payment of all applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
- Ensure compliance with all Blue Ocean Hotels policies, accounting procedures, and internal control standards.
- Support the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, audits, and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality industry.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with hotel accounting systems and property management systems is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to travel up to 10% as required for hotel visits, training, audits, and company meetings
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
