What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Builder's Assistant position at Blue Mesa Homes?
Job Summary
Blue Mesa Homes is seeking a motivated individual with some construction experience who is eager to learn the home-building business directly from an experienced Builder with over 15 years of proven success.
This role is designed for someone who is hands-on, observant, reliable, and coachable—someone willing to take direction, learn the process from the ground up, and grow into greater responsibility over time.
This position is best described as the Builder’s eyes and ears on the job sites. You will be responsible for daily site presence, material movement and verification, subcontractor coordination, and consistent communication back to the Builder. You will work both with your hands and your head.
This is a 6–12 month apprenticeship-style role with a clear path to increased responsibility and earnings for the right person.
What This Role Is (and Is Not)
This is not a desk job.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from afar.
This is a field role for someone who:
- Can follow instruction precisely
- Is willing to learn proven systems and methods
- Shows up every day ready to work, observe, and communicate
- Understands that mastery comes from repetition and accountability
Responsibilities
- Take direction from the Builder and execute it as if the business were your own
- Serve as daily on-site presence across active job sites
- Operate a skid steer to move materials to the correct homes
- Move materials by hand when needed
- Check material deliveries to ensure nothing is missing or damaged
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure they have what they need to stay productive
- Monitor construction progress and report updates, issues, and needs to the Builder every single day
- Step in physically and perform hands-on work when required
- Learn each phase of construction thoroughly before taking on additional responsibility
As training progresses, responsibilities will increase while maintaining existing duties.
Training & Growth
You will be trained in:
- Job sequencing and production flow
- Builder–subcontractor coordination
- Material management
- Quality control
- Schedule awareness
- Builder accountability to both clients and subcontractors
The long-term goal is for the apprentice to eventually run an entire line of production independently, completing homes from start to finish using the Builder’s systems and standards.
Requirements
- Some experience working on construction sites (residential preferred)
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools
- Willingness and ability to learn equipment operation (skid steer required)
- Ability to read plans is a plus, not required
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Clear, consistent communication skills
- Ability to perform physical labor daily in outdoor conditions
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and accept correction
Compensation
- This is a 1099 position
- Paid per house at closing, just like the Builder
- Starting pay: $2,500 per completed house
- As responsibilities increase, pay increases up to $5,000 per house
- Payment is made directly through the title company upon closing
The Builder has closed 2 homes per month consistently, putting starting earning potential at approximately $5,000/month, with room for significant growth as production increases.
