Project Accountant
Reports to: Controller
Blue Harlan is the recruitment partner to a growing construction company with a close-knit team and a hands-on work environment. We are looking for a Project Accountant to join the two-person accounting team and work closely with the Controller and Project Managers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities.
- Set up vendors and maintain required W-9s, credit applications, and other documentation.
- Enter, code, and post invoices ensuring costs are assigned to the correct projects and cost codes.
- Process credit card transactions and employee expenses.
- Monitor AR aging, customer payments, deposits, and lien waivers.
- Track subcontractor billing, payments, lien waivers, Certificates of Insurance, and compliance.
- Partner with Project Managers to maintain accurate job costing and project financials.
- Assist with project closeout, including final job cost review and ensuring vendors and subcontractors are paid.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end close, General Ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Support Minnesota use tax reporting.
- Work with the Controller and outside CPA on monthly financial reporting and reconciliations.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or another project-based environment.
- Solid understanding of AP, AR, reconciliations, job costing, and General Ledger activity.
- Experience working with invoices, vendor records, customer billing, and financial documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and follow-through.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership in a small, collaborative accounting team.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, ask questions, and help solve problems rather than simply flagging them.
- Comfortable working with numbers, reconciliations, reports, and project financial information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Experience with Construction Software is a plus, but not required.
- A positive, dependable, team-oriented approach and a willingness to learn and grow with a growing company.
