The Legal Department provides legal guidance to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama in the areas of preventive and defensive law. The associates in the Legal Department provide the vital legal guidance that helps Blue Cross continue its role as the market leader in an industry that is affected by continuous changing laws and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
The Payment Analyst supports the Subrogation/Workers’ Compensation area to apply payments received upon recovery for subrogation and workers’ compensation cases. The position resolves uncertainties and/or issues in payment application through knowledge of claims and general accounting principles. The Analyst utilizes high-level problem-solving abilities and extensive communication skills to perform research on a variety of payments received, including those which may come without invoices or have incomplete information. This position involves daily contact with internal and external customers though review of written correspondence, inquiries, and telephone communication to determine proper payment placement. The research performed by the Analyst is crucial to ensuring payments are posted accurately to the system on a timely basis. The Analyst further works closely with Specialists and managers to analyze trends and assist in assigned cash management projects. Each Analyst is peer-reviewed on a weekly basis for accuracy and quality.

Summary Of Qualifications
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Proven problem recognition and problem-solving skills
- Achievement of minimum production, accuracy, and timeliness scores determined by current division
- Experience in a position requiring attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- In-depth knowledge and experience as an inquiry analyst processing refunds and adjustments is preferred
- Possess a high degree of analytical skills to resolve claim and inquiry issues is preferred
- Knowledge of the operating functions of various internal departments, including accounting, provider billing, payment processing, and claims is preferred
- Experience with claims systems (Navigator), and cash systems (refund system, Optidoc, etc.) in performing research functions is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred
