This is a service-focused position where you'll work independently while serving as a technical resource and mentor for junior technicians.
What You'll Do
As our Lead HVAC Service Technician, you'll be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining residential and light commercial HVAC systems while providing exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities Include:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, service, and repair residential and light commercial HVAC systems
- Service:
- Air-source heat pumps
- Low-ambient heat pumps
- Ductless and multi-zone mini-split systems
- Gas furnaces
- Split-system air conditioners
- Air handlers
- Hydronic heating systems
- Boilers
- Zone control systems
- Light commercial rooftop equipment
- Perform electrical diagnostics, refrigerant troubleshooting, airflow testing, combustion analysis, and complete system performance evaluations
- Identify root causes of equipment failures—not simply replace parts
- Perform preventative maintenance to maximize system efficiency, reliability, and lifespan
- Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer comfort as quickly as possible
- Clearly explain repair options, maintenance recommendations, and replacement opportunities to homeowners
- Prepare accurate estimates and obtain customer approval before beginning repairs
- Recommend equipment upgrades and indoor air quality solutions when appropriate
- Complete detailed digital service reports, including diagnostics, photos, recommendations, and customer authorizations
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians
- Assist teammates with complex diagnostic issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked company vehicle
- Participate in rotating on-call coverage for evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Continue professional development through ongoing technical training
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 5 years of residential HVAC service and diagnostic experience
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair HVAC systems
- Solid understanding of:
- Electrical diagnostics
- Refrigeration systems
- Airflow analysis
- Gas heating
- Heat pumps
- Ductless systems
- Hydronic heating
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications
- EPA Section 608 Certification
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Own professional hand tools
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Dependable, organized, and self-motivated
- Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in attics, crawl spaces, basements, mechanical rooms, and outdoor environments
- Must speak English clearly and professionally
Spanish is a plus but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience servicing inverter-driven and low-ambient heat pumps
- Ductless and multi-zone system expertise
- Boiler and hydronic heating diagnostics
- Combustion analysis experience
- Variable-speed systems, ECM motors, zoning systems, and communicating controls
- Experience using field service software for estimates, invoicing, documentation, and customer communication
- NATE Certification or manufacturer training is highly desirable
