What You'll Do
As a Utility Operations Technician, you'll perform a variety of field and technical duties to help ensure the safe and efficient operation of our water and wastewater systems.
Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection
- Operate and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Perform routine inspections of lift stations and booster stations.
- Collect water samples and perform water quality testing.
- Monitor and operate chemical feed systems.
- Perform utility locates for underground infrastructure.
- Read, install, replace, and troubleshoot water meters.
- Assist with troubleshooting pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment.
- Identify operational issues and assist with repairs and preventative maintenance.
Customer Service
- Respond professionally to customer questions and service requests.
- Communicate effectively with homeowners, contractors, municipalities, and the public.
- Represent the company with professionalism and exceptional customer service.
Documentation & Technology
- Utilize computer software to manage work orders, inspections, and maintenance records.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Help ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Participate in emergency response and rotating on-call responsibilities.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 1 year of experience in water distribution, wastewater collection, or a related utility field
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Basic computer skills with the ability to maintain accurate records
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response
Must be eligible to work in the United States (E-Verify Employer)
Ability to successfully pass:
- Background Check
- Drug Screening
- Pre-Employment Physical
Preferred Qualifications
- North Carolina A-Surface Water License
- Additional Water or Wastewater Certifications
- Experience with lift stations, booster stations, pumps, and chemical feed systems
- Utility locating experience
- Water quality sampling and testing experience
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
