As a Controls Systems Engineer (Automation Engineer), you'll provide expert-level support for automated material handling equipment (MHE) in a high-volume fulfillment environment. Focus on troubleshooting, programming, and optimizing controls systems to maximize reliability, uptime, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and modify PLC/PC programs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, RSLogix 5000) for conveyors, sortation, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply, and SCADA systems.
- Serve as first-level escalation for on-site and remote controls support, including after-hours emergencies.
- Inspect systems, ensure compliance with design specs, codes, and safety regulations.
- Oversee contractor work, manage scopes, scheduling, and inspections for upgrades and maintenance.
- Engineer reliability improvements from concept to implementation.
- Monitor industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.), servo drives, VFDs, and electrical systems.
- Analyze metrics, resolve performance issues, and partner with site teams on failures and process enhancements.
- Communicate technical details, timelines, and impacts clearly with leadership, operations, and maintenance.
- Build strong relationships with the client and operations teams.
Requirements:
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
- Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience/education); 2-5 years relevant controls/automation experience.
- 2 years with PLC programming, robotics components/controls, and SCADA systems.
- Experience in at least two full engineering design cycles (spec, selection, programming).
- Strong problem-solving; physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, stoop, etc.
- Effective communication for complex technical and stakeholder interactions.
Preferred:
- 2 years apprenticeship or controls troubleshooting/programming.
- Experience with diverse conveyors/sortation and robotic maintenance.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills; strong organizational and math abilities.
