MASTERS LEVEL YOUTH COUNSELOR


Hours: Full time, 36 hours a week; Mondays 8am-5pm, Tuesday-Thursday 10am-7pm. Hours may need to flex based on participant need.


Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Location: Phoenix & Community Offices (not a remote position) Starting Salary: $35/hour

Master’s degree in social work or counseling required.

POSITION SUMMARY: BLOOM365 Counselors develop and deliver compassionate, confidential, safe and trauma- informed individual and group therapeutic counseling services for youth, teens and young adults, between the ages of 11 and 24 who have witnessed or experienced interpersonal violence. All young people engaged in BLOOM365 counseling services have access to emotional support and the tools and resources needed to build upon their strengths, heal from trauma, improve well-being and build new coping, self-care, and self-esteem skills into their everyday life. BLOOM365 Counseling Services are open and affirming to young people between the ages of 11 and 24, of any/all gender identities, sexual orientations, disability statuses and victimization experiences.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: BLOOM365’s Counseling services help young people identify and understand their trauma triggers, as well as gain skills and emotional support to improve their safety, healing, and well-being. Any/all forms of interpersonal violence (verbal, emotional, mental, physical, sexual) disrupt and violate an individual’s sense of safety. In this role, you will assist young people who have experienced or witnessed victimization improve safety, healing and well-being through the following free and confidential services delivered in person at BLOOM365’s Phoenix and Peoria locations, on the Mobile Outreach Van, in the community and online.


1. Individual Trauma Counseling & Skill Building (75% of time) BLOOM365 counseling services help youth navigate their thoughts, feelings, and choices. 


You will spend approximately 75% of your time delivering individual counseling sessions focused on strengthening the following skills: self-care, coping, self-esteem, social connectedness, communication, setting boundaries and safety planning. As a result, youth will be able to identify and alleviate their trauma triggers, as well as recognize and navigate the various symptoms of trauma (eg. denial, irritability, anxiety, fear, shame, withdrawing, hopelessness, powerlessness, etc.). Individual counseling caseload is 20-25 individual participants over the course of a 36-hour work week. Caseloads may be larger if individuals are seen on a bi-weekly, monthly or as needed basis.


2. Group Counseling/Psychoeducation (10%) Facilitate a therapeutic “Real Talk” Peer Support Group once a week over the course of 12 weeks for youth who have experienced or witnessed interpersonal violence. Additional psychoeducation groups may include legal rights, options and reporting abuse, skill development (assertive communication boundary setting, safety planning, stress management, ACEs), and other topics that may benefit participants.


3. Education (5% of time)

Collaborate with a team of Case Managers to provide a space for 11–24-year-olds and their non-offending parents/caregivers to learn about, as well as process the trauma caused by interpersonal violence.


4. Service Delivery & Outcome Tracking (5%)


Track and report SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals. This involves collecting and analyzing data, assessing the effectiveness of the healing modalities utilized, and enhancing program delivery to adapt to the evolving needs of participants. To achieve the outcome objectives outlined below, you will collaborate with case managers, interns and other staff to ensure counseling services are youth-centered, efficient, and impactful:


• Improve safety, healing, and well-being.

• Alleviate anxiety, stress and other adverse responses associated with the trauma of victimization.

• Build resiliency and support the healing process.

• Assist managers and directors in program reporting as needed

• Distribute and collect participant surveys monthly and quarterly to track outcomes

 

 

5. Case Management/Supervision/Administrative (5%)

Participate in a weekly case management meeting with the Clinical Supervisors, Program Directors, and counseling/advocate/intervention teams. Support in providing BSW and MSW interns supervision.


Other Duties as Assigned: Employees play a crucial role in the organization’s success by showcasing flexibility and adaptability. These tasks encompass a range of activities such as aiding in special projects, assisting team members during peak workloads, filling in for absent coworkers, handling urgent organizational matters, and undertaking new assignments as directed by management. Embracing these diverse assignments is vital for maintaining the organization's efficiency, promoting a cohesive strategy towards achieving collective objectives, and nurturing a collaborative atmosphere centered on our organization's mission and values.

OUTCOME GOALS: BLOOM365 Counseling services respond to the emotional, psychological and/or physical needs of youth victims of teen dating violence, domestic violence, sexual violence, gender-based violence and/or stalking. Counseling services aim to improve healing and well-being:

Healing After Victimization


For young people who have experienced victimization, our counseling services provide a safe space to regain a sense of control and agency over their lives where they are validated and believed. Our team of advocates, counselors and interns listen, empathize, validate, encourage and support young people on their healing journey.

BLOOM365 measures improvement in well-being by tracking participant progress with improvements in self-esteem, stability, safety, social connectedness and skill mastery. 


SUPERVISION: 

In this role, you will be provided with task and clinical supervision and will report to the LCSW Clinical Supervisor and Deputy Director.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

● Master’s level Social Worker or Counselor (Young people who have experienced victimization may also deal with depression, anxiety, PTSD and grief/loss. So, this position requires the credentials of a Master’s Level Social Worker or Counselor. Supervision is provided by an LCSW or LPC Clinical Supervisor.)

● Minimum 1-year direct counseling experience (individual and group

● Ability to provide culturally responsive and population specific counseling services to young people of all abilities, identities, orientations and races and ethnicities.

● Able to travel throughout Maricopa County to provide counseling services.

● Comfortable and familiar with providing tele-counseling services.

● Able to complete time-sensitive documentation with high attention to detail
