Greenhouse Manager

The role owns the greenhouse operation from seed to shelf - driving propagation, managing crop production, and shifting into retail mode during sales season to keep the greenhouse stocked, merchandised, and staffed well

Greenhouse propagation and production

• Plan and execute propagation schedule, including seedling, cuttings, plug production
• Receive, inspect and document incoming plant materials
• Manage greenhouse environment - watering, fertigation, pruning and general crop care
• Execute weekly pest and disease scouting; identify issues early treat per protocols
• Maintain a clean, organized propagation areas, greenhouses and storage
• Order and maintain adequate inventory of growing supplies (media, trays, tags, inputs)
• Print and apply tags for all greenhouse production
• Plan labor needs for potting, seeding, and propagation tasks and coordinate with the team accordingly
• Track crop quality and timing; flag concerns to owners

Retail nursery management

• Maintain awareness Of what's ready for retail and prep it for floor presentation.
• The nursery area fully stocked, well-signed and visually sharp. Refill from backstock daily.
• Design, print and install signage and plant tags for the retail area.
• Make real time product quality calls. Remove anything not meeting standards. Repurpose or compost accordingly.
• Assist customers in selecting the right plants with optimal customer service
• And direct retail nursery staff during sales season set daily priorities and quality expectations.

Office planning and administration.

• Maintain accurate inventory and communicate reorder needs and germination rates to the farm owner.
• Keep nursery records current using Farms software.And project management system.
• Run basic profitability analysis.Provide findings and recommendations to management.
• Help plan the annual retail plant program, including variety selection, production volume and timing.
• Contribute proactive feedback on systems, workflows and process improvements.
• Assist in planning and creating farm signage for the spring retail season.
• Assist with operations team to promote the greenhouse and sales team.

Field, harvest, and retail support in the offseason.

• Support planting and care of the hoop house and field crops as the greenhouse workload allows.
• Train new team members on greenhouse operations.Harvest technique. Product quality.
• Fill in when the field crew. As needed and when other responsibilities are current.

Leadership and supervision.

• Directly supervised nursery and greenhouse staff.Set daily work plans and provide real time direction and conduct feedback conversations.
• Bloom Hill Farms standards for product quality, customer service, and workplace conduct.
• Farm owner on hiring, scheduling, and performance of direct reports.
• Identify and escalate operational problems. Bring solutions.And not just issues.

The right person will be offered salary and a performance bonus bonus after six months with the company.

Requirements.

• Hands on greenhouse production experience including seating propagation, transplanting and basic crop management.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to common plant health issues such as pest disease, nutrient deficiencies.
• Comfort Working outdoors and in greenhouse environments year-round, including heat, humidity and cold.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods of time, and perform repetitive manual tasks.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to manage multiple tasks without constant supervision.
• Computer literacy, e-mail, spreadsheets, printing labels and signs.

Additional qualities and qualifications.

• Experience in the retail, nursery or garden center setting.Including merchandising, customer interaction and product knowledge.
• Prior experience leading or supervising a small team, even informally.
• Experience with furtigation, drip systems or irrigation management.
• ID knowledge across common annuals, perennials, and herbs.
• Experience with crop scheduling and seeding schedules.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
