Maintenance/ Housekeeper

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Maintaining all aspects of the building (interior and exterior) by performing any necessary minor repairs.  Minor repairs can include, but are not limited to certain aspects of :  Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Wall repair, Carpentry, Masonry, Basic construction and repair, Basic appliance repair.

• Knowledge of fire codes / safety

• Move furniture when necessary

• Install, build, assemble Program equipment

• Shovel sidewalks of ice/snow

• Attend in-service trainings

• Report any safety/maintenance hazards to your supervisor and repairing what can be repaired

• Respond to work orders in a timely basis and provide exceptional customer service

• Be available to drive for any given program, in case of emergency, when available

• Attend scheduled meetings with the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager

• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions

• Light plumbing, change faucets, pull and reinstall rear mount toilets, snake drains with a power snake

• Interact appropriately and follow all regulatory items concerning the individuals we serve

• Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position

• Troubleshooting and making routine repairs in the following areas:

  • Painting

  • Minor Electrical

  • Minor Plumbing

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

1 Year Experience Preferred A valid NYS Drivers’ License is a plus

Proficiency in English is required to perform essential job functions, including preparing written reports, understanding safety instructions, and communicating with clients or team members.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, climb, bend, stretch, kneel, push, pull, lift considerable weight, use ladders, operate machinery, and utilize many different types of tools (both manual and motorized). They must be able to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The environment encompasses all aspects of the building(s) they work in, as well as the outside surroundings. Their work may include hard labor indoors and out; may include shoveling snow or digging a trench; may include work on a roof or in a small crawl space. The Maintenance Worker may be asked to travel to different work locations as required.
