Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM) is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Development & Communications Associate. This position reports to the Director of Development & Communications and provides essential support across BISM’s fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts. The Associate will help ensure smooth daily operations within the department—handling donor data entry, acknowledgements, event support, and communications tasks that highlight the impact of BISM’s work. The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that balances administrative responsibilities with creative storytelling and outreach. Roles & ResponsibilitiesDevelopment Support:Maintain and update donor records in the donor management system.Process donations and prepare timely acknowledgement letters and receipts.Assist with donor communications, campaign mailings, and fundraising events.Support sponsor tracking, registration, and follow-up for special events. Communications & Marketing:Manage routine website updates and assist with online content.Help coordinate the monthly email newsletter, podcasts, and other digital outreach.Oversee and organize the BISM story bank, collecting stories from students, alumni, and employees for marketing use.Collaborate with social media content writers to ensure they have current stories and materials for scheduled posts.Assist with the production of marketing materials, flyers, and event promotions.Support other communications projects and initiatives as needed. Essential SkillsStrong writing, editing, and organizational skills.Attention to detail and accuracy in data management.Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.Familiarity with email marketing, social media, or website content management (training provided).A proactive, team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn. Knowledge & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field—or 1–3 years of relevant professional experience.Experience with donor management or CRM systems preferred.Familiarity with WordPress, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar platforms a plus.Understanding of social media management and community engagement.Passion for BISM’s mission to change attitudes about blindness through opportunity, independence, and inclusion. Additional InformationFull-time, salaried position based in Baltimore, MD.Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events.Willingness to travel to other BISM locations as needed.
