Seeking a passionate and skilled Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to make a meaningful impact in a school-based setting near Tacoma, WA for the 2026-2027 academic year. This full-time contract position centers around supporting a transition classroom with students presenting severe behavioral needs. Working onsite, you will play a pivotal role in helping students build life-changing skills within a nurturing educational environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active RBT certification and experience working in school settings
- Expertise with severe behavior needs, ideally in self-contained classrooms
- Familiarity with crisis intervention practices—CPI certification strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain promptly)
- Comfort working with culturally diverse populations; experience with Native American youth highly valued
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with staff and families
- Commitment to fostering a safe, supportive atmosphere for students facing complex challenges
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement individualized behavioral intervention plans under supervision of school BCBA or lead behavior specialist
- Support students in a transition classroom with skill development, goal attainment, and emotional regulation
- Collect and maintain data on student progress and share updates with interdisciplinary teams
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff
- Model proactive de-escalation and safety techniques in accordance with CPI standards
- Uphold confidentiality, respect, and sensitivity to cultural backgrounds at all times
