Role Responsibilities:
The Propane Tank Setter is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery, installations, and maintenance of residential and commercial customer’s propane tanks. This role requires the a strong commitment to safely operating a boom truck and installing equipment necessary to operate the tank, while complying with state and federal regulations standardizing the transport and delivery of hazardous materials.
Delivery and Installation
- Load and secure tank specified for delivery
- Plan route for each trip to minimize travel time and ensure safe road conditions.
- Set tank, ensuring location has been prepped correctly.
- Install copper conduit, gauges, relief valves and other necessary equipment. This may require entering the customer’s building to ensure proper installation.
- Check valves and connections for any leaks.
Maintain Equipment
- Complete daily pre and post trip inspections.
- Perform maintenance as necessary.
- Report any hazards in loading and unloading areas.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and well organized.
Record Keeping
- Efficiently and accurately maintain daily manifests and trip logs, equipment logs, and sales logs.
- Record all materials used for an install
Hazardous Materials
- Report any spills immediately to the supervisor and Hazmat Emergency Response number.
- Maintain require logs of any incidents.
Customer Service
- Maintain open communication with supervisor regarding your schedule and any changes to the business needs.
- Ensure satisfactory working relationships with customers.
- Be aware of opportunities to increase sales or improve customer relations during your interactions and share with leadership as appropriate.
Knowledge and Experience Needed
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of driver training certification from an accredited technical school or specialty driving program, combined with a minimum of six months experience operating comparable equipment.
- Must be 21 years old, as required by DOT regulations, to legally haul hazardous materials.
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Must possess required endorsements to operate a motor vehicle over 26,000 pound, including air brake, tanker and HAZMAT endorsements.
- Possess state Class C training and certification for hazardous materials, complying with EPA and MDEQ regulations.
- Be able to perform basic math skills and the ability to calculate and record rate, ratio and percentage data.
- Demonstrate good communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
- Must be able to work on uneven surfaces and ascend and descend a ladder safely.
