Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the Health Science career pathway designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop compentencies, knowledge and skills related to health careers and real-world applications in the healthcare field.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assigned, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
- Current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner
- Demonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of health science career and technical education subject(s) assigned
- Understanding of medical terminology, healthcare systems and clinical practices
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to oversee student field experiences in career area assigned
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Familiarity with industry certifications and career readiness standards
- Ability to integrate technology and hands-on learning into instruction
Experience
- Student teaching, approved internship, and/or two years of full-time wage-earning experience
in your licensed occupational field
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, technology and equipment, including lab and clinical-based experiences that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Prepare students for industry certifications and postsecondary opportunities in health-related fields
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned (may include sponsoring student organizations such as HOSA). Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Present a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Ensure safe handling and use of equipment and materials in lab settings
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other documents required.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Stay current with trends, certifications, and best practices in the healthcare industry.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Comply with federal, state and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
