Civil Construction Laborer – EV Charging Infrastructure

About the Position

Blackstone Construction is looking for a dependable and hardworking Civil Construction Laborer to join our team. Our crews specialize in the civil construction of EV charging stations and related infrastructure.

This is an entry-level to experienced field position focused on supporting the construction crew. The Laborer will work under the direction of the Foreman and assist with excavation, demolition, concrete, underground utilities, site restoration, material handling, and general construction activities.

EV charging experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train individuals who have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire to learn the construction trade.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Foreman and construction crew with daily jobsite activities.
• Perform general construction labor as directed.
• Assist with demolition of concrete, asphalt, foundations, and other existing site improvements.
• Assist with excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling.
• Help install and backfill underground conduit and utility trenches.
• Assist with concrete formwork, reinforcement, placement, finishing, and cleanup.
• Assist with installation of equipment pads, foundations, bollards, vaults, pull boxes, and other site improvements.
• Load, unload, move, and stage construction materials.
• Operate hand tools and small equipment as trained and authorized.
• Assist equipment operators with excavation, grading, and material placement.
• Perform jobsite cleanup and maintain an organized work area.
• Assist with asphalt and concrete restoration.
• Follow direction from the Foreman and other supervisors.
• Follow project plans and construction requirements as directed.
• Participate in toolbox talks, JSAs, and required safety training.
• Follow all company, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your coworkers.
• Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.

EV Charging Construction

Our crews construct EV charging stations and related civil infrastructure. Laborers may assist with:

• EV charger foundations
• Equipment pads
• Concrete demolition and replacement
• Asphalt demolition and restoration
• Conduit trenching
• Underground utility installation
• Electrical equipment foundations
• Transformer and switchgear foundations
• Vaults and pull boxes
• Bollards and protective barriers
• Site grading and restoration
• General site cleanup

This is a civil construction position. Electrical installation is not required.

QualificationsRequired

• Reliable attendance and dependable work ethic.
• Ability to follow directions from the Foreman.
• Ability to work safely as part of a construction crew.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical construction work.
• Ability to lift and carry construction materials and tools.
• Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite.
• Willingness to travel for projects as needed.
• Commitment to following safety procedures.

Preferred

• Previous construction or labor experience.
• Civil construction experience.
• Concrete experience.
• Excavation or underground utility experience.
• Experience using hand and power tools.
• Experience operating small construction equipment.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• Flagging or traffic-control experience.
• EV charging construction experience.

Construction experience is helpful but not required for the right candidate.

Equipment & Tool Experience

Experience with the following is a plus:

• Skid steer
• Mini excavator
• Plate compactor
• Jumping jack
• Concrete saw
• Demo saw
• Jackhammer
• Hand tools
• Power tools
• Laser levels

Employees will only operate equipment they are trained and authorized to operate.

Physical Requirements

The Laborer must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Lift and carry construction materials and tools.
• Bend, kneel, crouch, and climb as necessary.
• Perform repetitive physical tasks.
• Work around heavy equipment and active construction operations.
• Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions.
• Safely perform manual labor associated with civil construction.
