Description
The Electrical Field Technician will support both shop-based assembly/testing and field-based commissioning/startup of electrical control systems and equipment. This role involves hands-on technical work, adherence to strict safety and quality standards, and collaboration with engineering and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all Safety Procedures and Policies without exception
- Assemble and stage jobs per Bills of Material (BOM) and direction from shop leadership
- Review engineering drawings and identify any errors or omissions before beginning assembly
- Report documentation or design issues immediately to the shop lead
- Assist team members with the safe handling and movement of large projects
- Build and maintain electrical control panels in compliance with UL508A standards
- Support testing, quality checks, and preparation of completed jobs for shipment
- Adhere to all company and site-specific safety and access requirements (PPE, drug screening, etc.)
- Develop and maintain knowledge in: VFD commissioning and startup, field instrumentation commissioning and startup, PLCs, and basic networking equipment
- Participate in company-supported training and commit to additional self-study as required
- Diagnose equipment and system issues independently or with remote assistance from a Process Engineer
- Maintain tools and diagnostic equipment, including ensuring calibration where required
- Review and fully understand tasks prior to traveling to any job site
- Support site commissioning and startup activities including:
- Panel wiring, diagnostics, and startup
- Instrument wiring, diagnostics, and startup
- Network diagnostics and startup
- Establish remote connections with Programming Engineers to assist with advanced troubleshooting
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certificate preferred
- 2 - 5 years of experience with industrial instrumentation and controls
- Understanding of electrical control panels and electrical design
- General PLC knowledge
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to lift and move up to 80 lbs unassisted
- Must remain consistently safety- and customer-focused
