What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Account Manager position at Blackjack Horticulture Careers?
The Opportunity
This is not a cold-calling sales job or a customer service desk. This is a true relationship management role — you’ll personally know your clients, understand their properties inside and out, and become a trusted advisor they rely on for years. You’re the person they call when something doesn’t look right, when they want to reimagine a space, or when they need someone who can walk their property and speak knowledgeably about what’s happening with their landscape.
We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of an established book of high-end clients, nurture those relationships through consistent presence and expertise, and grow revenue organically by earning trust — not by making pitches. If you’re the kind of person who builds lasting partnerships, knows your horticulture, and takes pride in being the most knowledgeable person on any property walk, this role was built for you.
What You’ll Do
- Own client relationships: Serve as the dedicated, personal point of contact for a portfolio of high-end landscape clients. You’re not managing tickets — you’re building genuine, long-term partnerships where clients know you by name and trust your judgment.
- Conduct monthly site visits: Walk properties regularly with a trained eye — assessing quality, spotting plant health issues, identifying maintenance concerns before clients notice them, and ensuring crew performance meets our standards. You need to know what you’re looking at.
- Grow revenue through trust, not cold calls: Revenue growth in this role comes from being so knowledgeable and attentive that clients naturally turn to you when they’re ready for enhancements, seasonal color, hardscape additions, or new projects. You identify opportunities during site visits and conversations, then develop and present proposals. Meet or exceed annual sales targets.
- Be the expert your clients count on: When a client calls about browning turf, a struggling tree, or drainage concerns, they expect you to have answers — or to know exactly how to find them. Your horticultural knowledge and problem-solving ability are what set you apart.
- Manage expectations and resolve issues: Act as the client advocate internally — when something isn’t right, you take ownership, communicate transparently, and drive resolution with the crew and operations team. You don’t pass the buck.
- Coordinate with operations: Translate client expectations into clear direction for field teams. You’re the bridge between what the client wants and what gets delivered.
- Manage your schedule independently: Plan and prioritize your own site visits, client meetings, and follow-ups.
What You Bring
Required:
- 3 years of experience in the landscape industry in an account management, client-facing, or business development capacity — you must genuinely understand this industry, not just sales in general
- Strong horticultural knowledge: you can identify plant species, diagnose pest and disease issues, and speak confidently about seasonal maintenance practices. When you walk a property, you see what most people miss.
- A relational approach to selling — your track record shows you grow accounts by earning trust and delivering value, not by pushing products
- Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and in-person — with the polish to engage high-end clientele and the directness to manage tough conversations
- Self-starter mentality: you take initiative, manage your time effectively, and don’t wait to be told what needs to happen
- Comfort with sales targets and a track record of meeting or exceeding them
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to be insured on company vehicles
- Proficiency with CRM tools, email, and basic estimating/proposal software
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field
- Familiarity with landscape estimating and job costing
