One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center serves as the hub for coordinated domestic and sexual violence services in the Greater Birmingham region. They bring advocates, law enforcement, legal professionals, counselors, and emergency support together so victims and survivors do not have to navigate the system alone. The mission of One Place is to lead a coordinated community response to domestic and sexual violence that protects victims, survivors, promotes healing, and holds offenders accountable.
Role Description
This is a part-time to full-time Licensed Mental Health Counselor role with a hybrid working model. The position is based in the Greater Birmingham, Alabama Area, with a combination of in-person work at the One Place office as well as remote work. The counselor will provide services to the children of One Place’s adult clients as well as youth participants in One Place’s Camp HOPE program. This position will be working with youth who may have witnessed domestic violence, experienced various forms of abuse themselves, experienced family instability, poverty and other types of trauma. Key tasks include developing and implementing treatment plans, supporting clients as they process their trauma, working with their adult caregivers, conducting assessments, maintaining accurate case documentation, and fostering therapeutic relationships.
Qualifications
- Expertise in Treatment Planning and Case Management, including the ability to create, implement, and monitor individualized care plans.
· Experience and expertise in Trauma Informed mental healthcare and therapy for children ages 3-18.
- Proficient knowledge of Mental Health principles and practices, with experience in addressing diverse emotional and psychological needs.
- Strong skills in Psychology and Relationship Counseling, with a focus on building trust and effective communication with clients.
- Preference for clinicians with eligibility to provide licensure supervision to intern and associate counselors
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Alabama.
- No less than 3 years of experience working with diverse populations, particularly families impacted by domestic violence.

- Experience with EMDR and/or Brainspotting therapeutic techniques
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is required.
