Black Mountain Presbyterian Church is seeking a passionate and experienced Preschool Director to lead our half-day, church-based preschool that serves children ages one through five. BMPC Weekday School is rooted in a holistic, play-based educational philosophy, includes four classes and operates five days per week, September through May.
The Director provides day-to-day and forward-thinking leadership for the preschool, ensuring a nurturing, developmentally appropriate and well-managed program. This role is ideal for someone who believes young children learn best through curiosity, exploration, meaningful relationships, and joyful play—within a nurturing, faith-centered community.
The Preschool Director is a member of the BMPC staff team, supervised by the Pastor and Head of Staff, and works closely with the Weekday School Committee (the school’s governing body).
Position Details
· Full time (40 hours/week)
· On-site daily during program hours (7:30am – 2:00pm)
- Some Sunday mornings, afternoon or evening meetings, and special events required
· Annual salary starting at $50,000 plus benefits

Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Educational Oversight
· Champion and support a high quality, play-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood program through visionary leadership
· Foster and ensure a safe, warm, inclusive, and faith-filled learning environment
· Supervise, support, mentor, and evaluate teaching staff in holistic, child-centered practices
· Foster a collaborative and positive staff culture
· Ensure compliance with state health and safety requirements
· Support teachers in observing and assessing children’s developmental growth
· Work alongside teachers to notice when children may need extra support and help guide conversations with families, including sharing helpful community resources
Family & Community Engagement
· Lead admission and enrollment, including prospective tours and scholarship distribution
· Maintain strong, consistent communication with enrolled and prospective families
· Plan and host parent meetings, school events, and manage program growth
· Build strong relationships with families, staff, and church leadership
Administrative & Operational Leadership
· Oversee daily operations of the preschool, maintain best practices and curriculum alignment
· Communicate regularly with the Weekday School Committee
· Create and manage the annual budget in partnership with the church finance staff
· Supervise billing, payroll coordination, substitute scheduling, and financial tracking
· Maintain school policies, handbooks, and required documentation
Church Collaboration
· Participate as a valued member of the BMPC staff team
· Attend required meetings and collaborate with church leadership
Qualifications
· Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (required)
· Experience in preschool administration or leadership (preferred)
· Effective communication, organizational, and leadership skills
· Deep understanding of child development with play-based and holistic educational approaches
· Working knowledge of budgeting and financial management
· Commitment to the values and mission of a church-based program
· Meets all background check requirements (required)
