We are looking for a full-time High School Math Teacher for our year-round therapeutic boarding school. We are seeking a candidate with experience teaching high school mathematics, experience working with students with learning disabilities, enthusiasm for providing integrative lessons and a passion for real-world integration. Experience with technology is a plus.
The School: Black Mountain Academy is a year-round, small, nurturing therapeutic boarding school. We specialize in supporting adolescents, primarily assigned male at birth, in grades 9-12, who struggle with social skills, emotional regulation, processing speed delays, and finding success in more traditional academic environments.
Most our students have been diagnosed with some type of neurodevelopmental concern including autism spectrum disorder, level 1 (sometimes referred to as “high functioning autism” or “Asperger’s”), Social-Pragmatic Communication Disorder, Executive Functioning Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, or Depression.
Our goal is to create an environment in which each student develops the skills and self-efficacy necessary to thrive across their lifespan. We work hard to inspire a love for learning, curiosity, and excitement in our student's academic experience. We are a small team invested in the growth of our students and staff, providing a collaborative environment for learning by integrating the academic, clinical, and program teams to provide the best care for our students.
Highlights of this Role:
- Small class sizes to meet the individualized needs of each student.
- Less focus on grading work, more on individual lesson plans and direct learning
- In addition to core subjects, teachers get to teach an elective based on their own interests. Examples include music, art, software development, and robotics.
Skills needed:
- Great attitude, creativity, and enthusiasm are required!
- Teaching experience is required.
- Ability to teach Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus is preferred.
- Ability to teach Trigonometry is a plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Year-round teaching, including a summer semester.
- Experience teaching students with learning differences.
- Teaching licensure preferred.
