What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Part Time Transition Specialist position at Black Hawk College?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The ESL Program Transition Specialist provides and coordinates necessary tasks that result in the recruitment, enrollment, and retention and transition of ESL students from the outreach centers, and the community to Academic ESL and transfer and vocational programs.
JOB LOCATION: QC Campus and East CampusDESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a. Visits each outreach ESL Program along with the Academic ESL Program coordinator at least two times each semester.
b. Conducts intake interviews with incoming ESL students.
c. Assists in the registration of eligible students by completing admissions applications and assistance with financial aid.
d. Refers students for ESL placement tests and for the ability-to-benefit tests.
e. Attends community events and activities in order to disseminate information about the College’s ESL program.
f. Assists the ESL coordinator in conducting orientation meetings for transitioning ESL students.
g. Assists the ESL coordinator in organizing and conducting the ESL Orientation Week.
h. Assists the Academic ESL Program coordinator in hosting visits of high school ELL students.
i. Assists ESL students in completing scholarship applications.
j. Coordinates the Conversation Partners Program.
k. Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

c. Works closely with students from a variety of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

a. Bachelor's degree required. Emphasis in ESL, counseling, or international studies preferred.
b. Familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office programs required.
c. Ability to travel and work from all Black Hawk College satellite centers required.
d. Valid driver’s license required.
e. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment required.
f. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
g. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information required.
h. Interest and ability to work with participants from varied social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds required.
