What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Restaurant Manager / Server position at Black Flannel Brewing Company?
Description
Reporting to the Restaurant GM, the Assistant FOH Manager is a floor-forward leader who manages guest flow, trains and coaches servers/hosts/bussers-runners, and reinforces our service culture every shift. You’ll control seating logistics and pacing, act as MOD on select shifts, keep standards tight, and help our team deliver “one size fits one” hospitality.
This will be a hybrid position where you manage a few floor shifts and serve or bartend other shifts per week.
What You’ll Do
Floor Leadership & Guest Flow
- Own the dining room rhythm: control floor flow and seating logistics, balance sections, coordinate with hosts, and pace the kitchen to protect ticket times.
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) minimum 4 shifts per week; be the visible leader who anticipates issues and jumps in where needed.
- Monitor table turns, and cover count in real time; adjust pacing to maximize seat hours without sacrificing hospitality / quality.
- Complete Full-time hours with server / bar shifts.
Training, Coaching & Standards
- Train service staff (servers, hosts, bussers/runners) on steps of service, pre-bussing, running, and menu knowledge; reinforce POS accuracy (Toast) and reset standards.
- Write sharp, efficient team reports with clear focus (features, 86s, upsell targets, timing).
- Inspect what you expect: table set, side-work, cleanliness, station readiness pre/ post-service.
Guest Experience & Service Recovery
- Model and coach B.L.(A.A.)S.T. (Believe, Listen, Apologize, Alert, Solve, Thank); empower servers to resolve issues at the table and close the loop yourself when needed.
- Keep the room friendly, curious, and on-brand — educational but never pretentious.
Communication & Admin
- Print/update weekly menus & daily team reports; maintain table tents and in-room signage.
- Support accurate cash handling and drawer resets pre-service; ensure nightly cash-out duties are completed.
- Partner with the GM on scheduling insights, labor targets, and training priorities; understand how your role ladders up to GM responsibilities.
- Help GM optimize and reduce FOH labor costs without sacrificing hospitality / quality.
Culture & Team
- Be a culture carrier for our core values: self-management, obsessive detail, high-performance teamwork, and positive, “one size fits one” hospitality.
- Create a fun, supportive environment where people love coming to work & guests feel joy.
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time; evenings/weekends required.
Hybrid position managing a few floor shifts plus serve or bartend other shifts per week.
Competitive pay & benefits commensurate with experience
If you are passionate about providing exceptional customer service and have the skills to lead a team in a dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume along with a cover letter detailing your relevant experience.
Requirements
- 1–3 years FOH leadership (lead server, floor captain, or assistant manager).
- Proven strength in guest flow management, host pacing, and expo/kitchen coordination.
- Training mindset with clear coaching communication; Toast POS familiarity a plus.
- Able to stand/walk for long periods and lift/move typical restaurant items.
- Comfort using basic KPIs to drive decisions (turn times, cover count, SPH, RevPASH).
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Table Turn Time & Ticket Time stabilize/improve via smarter pacing and host coordination.
- Server Sales per Hour and Guest Check Average lift through targeted team reports.
- Consistent use of B.L.(A.A.)S.T. with clean handoffs; online review trends reflect fast, empathetic recoveries.

You’ll Thrive Here If You…
- Are a proactive, self-managed operator with focused attention to detail & team-first instincts.
- Love craft culture and can speak beer/spirits/cocktails/food with warmth and humility.
- Believe hospitality is personal: every guest gets tailored service, not a script. One size fits one hospitality,
