Position Summary
The Torque & Test Operator is responsible for safely performing torque and pressure testing on oilfield equipment, including wellhead systems, frac iron, BOPs, and associated pressure-control equipment. This role ensures all connections meet required specifications and that equipment integrity is verified prior to and during operations.
The ideal candidate has strong field experience, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to operate hydraulic torque equipment and pressure testing units in high-demand environments.
- Perform torqueing of API 6A flanged connections using hydraulic torque wrenches and diesel torque units
- Conduct hydrostatic pressure testing on wellhead equipment, frac stacks, BOPs, and flowback iron
- Rig up and rig down torque and test equipment, including iron and hoses
- Operate diesel-powered torque skids and high-pressure test pumps safely and efficiently
- Verify proper bolt patterns, torque values, and tightening sequences per API standards
- Monitor and record pressure test results, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
- Identify leaks, pressure drops, or equipment issues and communicate findings immediately
- Assist with installation and removal of pressure control equipment (frac stacks, lubricators, BPVs, etc.)
- Maintain all equipment, tools, and work areas in clean and operational condition
- Complete field tickets, job reports, and required documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Work closely with customers and other service providers on location to ensure smooth operations
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years of experience in oilfield services (Torque & Test preferred)
- Strong understanding of API 6A flanges, pressure control equipment, and bolting procedures
- Experience operating hydraulic torque wrenches and pressure testing equipment
- Valid driver’s license W/ 3 years of history
- Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening and background check
- Must be able to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and rotational schedules
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in harsh outdoor conditions
- Experience with Frac stacks, Frac Missiles, and BOP's
- Manual lubricators, BPV (Back Pressure Valve), and two-way check retrieval
- High-pressure iron (1502, 602 connections, etc.)
- Knowledge of torque sequences and bolt patterns (API flange standards)
- Familiarity with ExxonMobil or major operator safety requirements
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
- Adhere to all company, customer, and regulatory safety policies at all times
- Wear required PPE, including FR clothing, H₂S monitor, hard hat, gloves, and eye protection
- Participate in safety meetings, JSA’s, and hazard assessments
- Ensure all equipment is inspected and compliant prior to use
- Field-based role in oil & gas locations
