Primary
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Installation and maintenance of all
telecommunications circuits including phone, carrier, microwave and other
wireless communications systems, two-way radio, analog, digital and fiber
optic systems.
- Read and interpret communications circuit diagrams
and equipment documentation.
- Use advanced diagnostic test equipment to isolate
and repair problems.
- Work closely with information technology telecom
engineers to plan the installation of communication facilities, equipment
for new facilities or sites as required.
- (20%) Installation and maintenance of local area
network and wide area network equipment to ensure connectivity to desktop
and remote locations. Basic computer diagnostic skills to support mobile
computer and wireless network services.
- (15-20%) Support of all related systems associated
with telecommunications including data devices, network equipment,
telemeter devices and common equipment such as central radio dispatch
equipment, radio consoles and other specialty phone devices.
- Provide advanced support for the remote terminal
units in substations and provide this support for emergency management
system testing. Assist in the alignment, maintenance and testing of power
line carrier systems.
- (15%) Provide project consulting to telecom
engineers.
- (10-15%) Provide technical input to assist in
development of project planning. Assist IT telecom engineers in
coordinating project plans and schedules.
- (5-15%) Coordinate activities of communications
carrier companies during installation of circuits for company use.
Coordinate efforts of contractors when they are providing services or
installing equipment for the company.
- (5-10%) Correct phone line problems on company
extensions and tie lines. Move company phones and workstations. Perform
any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
- (0-5%) Performance Expectations (Key Success Factors): Create department
documentation on communications circuits and equipment.
- Install equipment and systems to meet other business
units' deadlines and expectations. Perform responsibilities as directed
within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.
- Provide accurate input into the budget process and
contribute to meeting the actual targets. Establish and maintain effective
work relationships within the department and the company.
- Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and
skills necessary for the satisfactory completion of responsibilities;
enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for
professional development and training.
- Maintain sensitive and confidential information
regarding company information.
- Attend work on a regular basis and support the
company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety
rules. Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed;
understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations
applicable to position and company.
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's
license.
- Two-year degree in
telecommunications or data networking or equivalent work experience.
- (Typically two years of
additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for
candidates applying for this position who do not possess a two year
degree.
- A minimum of one year additional
directly related technical experience is required.)
- Three years of experience in
telecommunications or related voice and data communication field with
advanced skills in multiple telecommunication or utility disciplines or
has demonstrated advanced telecommunications skills, job knowledge and
leadership skills during employment with the company.
- Must possess advanced AC/DC
knowledge and understand the safety aspects of working in high voltage
environments. Ability to test voice and data circuits using meters,
oscilloscopes and other communication test equipment. Intermediate to
advanced knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems,
functions and major vendors.
- Effective oral and written
communication skills.
- Able to effectively assist with
the installation and troubleshooting efforts with vendors and service
providers.
- Effective advanced analytical and
problem-solving skills.
- Advanced ability to prioritize
and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently with limited daily
