Job Description
Basic Purpose
Provides
comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, and
ensures the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed
resource allocations. Leads functional
teams and provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
Assists with internal training for engineers and technicians. Works closely
with managers and principal engineers on higher-level projects, and in
recommending and implementing changes that benefit the company.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
· Develops
economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control
designs with no supervision and guidance. Provides technical management of
multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working
collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders. (25%)
· Ensures
quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as
needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site
inspections. (25%)
· Provides
coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement
tasks on projects with no supervision or guidance. (15%)
· Assists
and guides other departments in the solution of non-standard substation design
problems. (15%)
· Provides
accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash
flow requirements are identified. (10%)
· Provides
input for development of detailed project schedules and update project
management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (10%)
· Ensures
all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and
complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and
company.
· Performs
related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Skills Required
· Bachelor’s
degree from accredited school in electrical engineering and 8 years industry
experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a
practicing engineer.
· Candidates
will have at least 10 years hands-on substation design experience, preferably
in a utility environment (but would consider consultant environment as well).
· Highly
Preferred that they have PE license. Please include License number and state in
which it was obtained with your submittal.
· Demonstrated
knowledge of:
o Substation/control
engineering principals and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
o Areas
of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting with technical experiences in
cost analysis.
o Analytical,
interpersonal and communication with company personnel, customers, and
regulatory agencies.
o Multi-tasking’s,
leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem-solving and
decision-making.
