Job Title: DoW SBR Audit Remediation Consultant

Location: Hybrid (Pentagon – Three days onsite)
About the Role:
BizFirst is seeking a DoW SBR Audit Remediation Consultant to
support a Department of War (DoW) customer with Statement of Budgetary
Resources (SBR) audit remediation and financial reporting improvement efforts.
This role focuses on identifying root causes of audit findings, resolving
budgetary discrepancies, and implementing sustainable process, data, and
control improvements to strengthen auditability.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in federal budget execution
and SBR reporting, with a strong ability to perform reconciliations, support
audit requirements, and drive remediation efforts across complex financial
environments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support remediation of SBR-related audit findings, including
unsupported balances, incomplete populations, abnormal variances, and reporting
inconsistencies
• Perform budget execution and SBR reporting analysis, including Funding
Authorization Document reconciliations, SF-132/SF-133 tie-outs, and variance
analysis
• Reconcile key SBR line items to source systems and feeder data to ensure
accuracy and completeness
• Develop and document remediation plans, including milestones and deliverables
to support audit requests (PBC support)
• Assess and enhance internal controls over budgetary reporting and supporting
business processes
• Draft and update process narratives and audit documentation to support audit
readiness
• Partner with functional teams to remediate data quality issues and improve
transaction traceability
• Translate analytical findings into actionable corrective recommendations
• Support ongoing audit activities and stakeholder coordination efforts
Required Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience in federal financial management, budget
execution, or financial statement audit support
• Demonstrated experience with SBR concepts (apportionment, obligations,
outlays, upward/downward adjustments, and budgetary accounting)
• Hands-on experience performing reconciliations and variance analysis
• Experience developing audit-ready documentation and supporting audit requests
(PBCs)
• Strong ability to translate financial findings into corrective actions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across diverse stakeholder
groups
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• Secret Clearance (required)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Experience supporting Department of War (DoW) or other federal financial
management programs
• Familiarity with budget execution systems and federal financial reporting
processes
