Portfolio Manager Job Description
Portfolio Managers assess business loan applications at financial institutions. They assist the loan officer with interviewing commercial loan applicants, evaluate applicants' financial status, and create customized loan packages and payment plans. They work at commercial banks exclusively.
The Portfolio Manager is a resourceful, experienced, and detail-oriented individual to help with underwriting, structuring, and originating commercial and commercial real estate loans. In this role, your duties will include assisting with advising clients on different loan options and assessing financial information. You may also collaborate with a credit analyst on preparing loan packages for clients who require extensive commercial loans. To ensure success as a Portfolio Manager, you should possess solid knowledge of commercial lending and the management of the entire bank loan portfolio, along with a thorough understanding of regulations governing loan applications and commercial lending. A first-class Portfolio Manager will be someone who can combine sound judgment with professional expertise in this field.
Portfolio Manager Responsibilities:
- Consulting with other managers about credit policies, credit lines, standards, and procedures.
- Advising clients on suitable loan and credit options.
- Obtaining and assessing financial information, including financial statements and credit histories.
- Collaborating with other experienced individuals in setting up loan packages for extensive loans.
- Performing due diligence on the lending process from application to closing documentation
- Review and approve all loan documentation prior to closing.
- Liaising between borrowers and other bank departments.
- Reject loan applications and explain deficiencies to applicants.
- Respond to applicants' questions and resolve any loan-related issues.
- Prepare detailed loan request for loan committee.
- Analyze active loan files on a regular basis
- Negotiating payment arrangements and preparing delinquent loan reports.
- Keeping abreast of amendments to loan policies, lending procedures, and regulations.
- Reviewing and approving all commercial appraisals
- Reviewing and approving all real estate title commitments
- Reviewing and approving all borrower entity documents
- Review and approve all third-party inspections, reports, and data for completeness and accuracy
- Review and approve all construction draws and borrowing base certificates for funding
- Contact customers for collection of loans, and dealing with customer issues
- Complete all reports for the management and board of directors as needed
- All other items as required by management
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or in a related field.
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of loan policies and lending procedures.
- Experience in advising loan applicants and assessing loan applications.
- Extensive experience in reviewing financial information.
- Ability to collaborate with senior managers.
- Advanced ability to negotiate payment plans and report delinquency.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to liaise between departments.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
