Summary of Position:
Bismarck State College is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Assistant Teaching Professor of Music - Instrumentation to join our faculty. The successful candidate will support student success by directing instrumental ensembles, including Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band. This role involves a commitment to excellent teaching, student mentoring, and active participation in campus activities.
COMPENSATION: Full-Time, special non-tenure track position. Competitive salary based on directly related experience and education.
- 9 months: $47,100 - $58,874

Key Responsibilities:
- Directing instrumental ensembles, including Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band
- Preparing music for BSC events
- Recruiting students for performance ensembles
- May also include teaching courses such as Music Theory I & II, Aural Skills I & II, Applied Lessons, Music Appreciation, and World Music
- Facilitating State and Regional music festivals
- Participation in professional organizations such as NDMEA
- Assessing students
- Committee work
- Coordination with ensemble instructors,
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate music-related master's degree
- Demonstrated successful experience with conducting concert bands or other large ensembles
- Documented successful experience with private music lessons
- Documented successful experience with recruiting collegiate students
- Documented successful experience directing pep band
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and ability to work as a team member
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, email, & electronic calendar - Outlook)
- Creative in using a variety of teaching resources, media, and instructional technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate (PhD or DMA)
- Experience with distance delivery of courses
- College teaching experience
- Active member in a state organization such as NDMEA
- Experience with community and school outreach for music
- Experience with a wide range of repertoire (i.e., classical, contemporary, multicultural, etc.)
- Experience with concert planning, budgeting, and event coordination
