If positions are available, they will be full-time positions, teaching five sections each semester and participating in the O’Dowd community.The successful candidate will be able to skillfully teach high school level social studies. Experience teaching AP courses in government and/or economics is strongly preferred.The teacher will have a commitment to bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion into their teaching practice, a demonstrated interest in Catholic education, and knowledge of educational technology.Other responsibilities may include teaching electives, maintaining regular office hours, supporting student co-curricular activities, and collaborating regularly with colleagues. Teachers at Bishop O’Dowd High School are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in alignment with Bishop O’Dowd High School’s charism. The individual in this position will collaborate most closely with their respective department team, ensuring consistency across grade-levels and content areas. Teachers are also expected to work with counselors to ensure whole-student support and success while maintaining open and engaging lines of communication with guardians and families.Social Studies Teacher Job requirements:Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and are in accordance with school standardsObserve and evaluate student progress, using data and appropriate technology to differentiate instruction or adjust teaching strategiesMaintain accurate records on student progress, providing timely and appropriate feedbackWork outside the normal schedule periodically in order to collaborate with colleaguesMaintain restorative practices in accordance with the rules of Bishop O’Dowd High SchoolParticipate constructively and actively in department, school, and parent meetings and relevant professional developmentEstablish a classroom culture that is built on strong teacher-student relationships and allows for risk-takingArticulate and skillfully promote equity and justice work as well as anti-bias and anti-racist teaching and learning practicesProvide appropriate accommodations to students with learning differences.Utilize technology to facilitate classroom instruction and student learningDemonstrate a drive to grow professionally and an openness to feedback from both peers and supervisorsFoster strong collegial and student relationships across diverse backgroundsSupport the Catholic mission and charism of the schoolWork with pride and enthusiasm as a member of the O’Dowd communitySocial Studies Teacher Qualifications:Demonstrated passion for social studies education and a dedication to helping all students reach their full potentialEvidenced knowledge of and experience in the subject area, culturally responsive teaching, and social-emotional learningKnowledge of and experience with educational technology tools Proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studentsAbility to foster a safe, inclusive, equitable, and joyful learning environmentNuanced understanding of DEI from a personal and/or professional perspectiveProven success collaborating with colleagues and innovating practicesRelevant teaching credential and/or master’s degree preferredExperience teaching relevant AP or IB courses preferredBachelor’s degree requiredThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
