Head Coach Position Summary:
The Bishop Estates Swim Team (BEST) board of directors is seeking a motivated and skilled Head Swim Coach to lead our team for the 2026 summer season, and possibly beyond. The Head Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and motivating swimmers of all ages and abilities in a positive, safe, and fun environment. This position oversees all aspects of the summer swim team program — including practices, meets, learn to swim program, assistant coaches, and some parent communications — to foster both skill development and team spirit in alignment with the team’s philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:
· Program Leadership
o Plan and conduct engaging daily swim practices focusing on development of stroke techniques, endurance, starts, and turns for all age groups
o Provide stroke technique instruction, race strategy guidance, and motivational support
o Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive, and sportsmanlike team culture
o Ensure a safe practice and meet environment, following all facility and league safety guidelines
· Meet Management
o Organize swimmer entries for dual meets and invitational meets in coordination with assistant coaches and team volunteers.
o Attend and coach all swim meets throughout the season, providing on-deck leadership and support.
o Communicate with opposing teams and league officials as needed regarding meets, rules, and results.
· Staff Supervision
o Train and mentor assistant and junior coaches.
o Assign responsibilities and monitor coaching performance to ensure consistent instruction and positive swimmer experiences.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Prior competitive swimming experience (high school, college or equivalent)
- 3 years swim coaching experience (head coaching experience preferred, but not required)
- Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics, training principles, and meet procedures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children ages 3-18 of all ability levels, parents, and volunteers.
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding (or ability to obtain before the season starts)
- Desired: Current USA Swimming/ASCA/ YMCA or comparable coaching certification (or ability to obtain before season starts)
- Local travel is required for scheduled swim meets and off-site team activities. This includes most Wednesday evenings and weekends during the summer
Season & Compensation:
Season: April 1, 2026 – August 2, 2026 ; plus awards night in mid-August.
Compensation: Competitive seasonal stipend based on experience. Additional opportunities for private lessons or clinics may be available
