Want to spend your summer outside with kids, riding bikes and exploring the Bay Area? Wheel Kids Bicycle Club is hiring for summer bike camp - from camp counselors to management roles! Wheel Kids is the Bay Area’s premier exploration and adventure destination for kids! We are hiring for the following regions and locations:San Francisco: Richmond, Sunset, Dogpatch NeighborhoodsEast Bay: Walnut Creek, Concord, BerkeleyPeninsula: Palo AltoWheel Kids coaches work with 1-2 additional coaches and are responsible for daily activities, management, direction and safe functioning of a group of up to 12 children. An excellent candidate for a Wheel Kids coaching position is excited about planning group rides and activities, wants to foster a love of bicycling and exploration among children, and is open to receiving feedback to improve. Coaches are required to be available to work for at least 6 weeks of our summer season (8 weeks strongly preferred).Job Responsibilities:The responsibilities listed below are typical but not exhaustive. It is expected that all Wheel Kids staff perform whatever tasks are needed to ensure safety and a positive experience for our participants. A Wheel Kids Head Coach’s primary responsibilities include:Managing a group of up to 12 children ranging in age from 5 to 15, with the assistance of 1-3 other coaches.Teaching children the “rules of the road,” selecting group ride routes and facilitating games and activities throughout each camp day.Manage coaching staff including Assistant Coach(es) and C.I.T.(s).Applying Wheel Kids safety procedures during programs, and the ability to calmly render first aid when necessary.Coordinating activities with other Coaches, Directors and the General Manager.Providing excellent customer service and ensuring that families are comfortable leaving their child in Wheel Kids’ care.Handling/moving bicycles on stairs, elevators, buses, trucks, etc.Managing the sign-in and sign-out process, ensuring that staff members monitoring sign-in/sign-out adhere to Wheel Kids policies.Supervising and monitoring children during daily activities including group rides, general activities and play time, field trips and special events.Displaying a positive attitude, leadership skills, compassion, respect and patience, and being a role model for these attributes.Helping resolve children’s situations: behavioral, medical and emotional.Ensuring that areas used by Wheel Kids are left in excellent condition (“leave no trace”).Establishing an environment that fosters good morale and an enjoyable camp experience for children, families and staff.CompetenciesSuccessful fulfillment of all coaching positions require the following minimum competencies:Child focus: Understands children’s temperaments and motivations sufficiently to manage and guide them in a variety of programs and activities, and in a variety of behaviors, environments, and circumstances; willingness to delay personal goals or gratifications when needed for the safety, well-being, or enjoyment of the children.Curiosity: Possesses a desire to learn about many things, an ability to seek ways of learning, and the capacity to share the mind-set, process, and results with others.Effective and timely communication: Expresses ideas and thoughts verbally and in written form, exhibits good listening skills and comprehension; works actively to resolve conflicts.Workplace professionalism: Committed to a high standard of professional behavior, including reliability, collegiality, honesty, focus, and integrity.Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making: Analyzes opportunities and problems to determine and implement solutions that reflect and support the company’s goals.Organization: Keeps track of documents, resources, correspondence, etc., ensuring efficient use of time and expense and effective communication.Customer support: Places high priority on retaining clients through excellent service and communication; maintains strategic and tactical balance between customer support and company financial health.Flexibility: Willingness to modify plans and activities as needed for the overall success and development of the company and its clients.By applying to this job, you agree to receive periodic text messages from this employer and Homebase about your pending job application.
