JOB DESCRIPTION:
The General Ledger Analyst serves as a key technical and analytical resource within the Finance Department. This position performs advanced analytical work related to the preparation, review, and maintenance of the organization’s general ledger and financial reporting systems. The role requires strong technical proficiency, particularly in data extraction, Excel-based reporting, and financial system integration. The position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data through detailed analysis, reconciliations, and system-based reporting.
- Develop and automate recurring reports using Excel and/or other financial reporting tools.
- Extract and manipulate large data sets from multiple financial systems for reporting and audit purposes.
- Provide technical guidance and training to accounting staff on data extraction, report generation, and system utilization.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary accounts on a monthly basis.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Perform detailed account analyses and variance reviews for management reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Support year-end closing activities and external audit requests.
- Collaborate with departments to research and resolve Excel reporting discrepancies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing system and reporting efficiencies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental goals and operations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, Power Query, and data visualization tools).
- When acclimated, ability to extract, validate, and analyze large datasets from ERP or financial management systems of BCS (e.g., Nextgen, Frontline, Etrieve, etc.).
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in financial reporting, data analysis, or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems preferred.
- Experience in a school district or public sector finance environment is strongly preferred.
