Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Handle animals safely and confidently, utilizing animal restraint techniques and exotic handling skills to ensure both pet and staff safety.
- Perform laboratory tests, including sample collection, processing, and analysis to support accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain detailed records of patient histories, treatments, laboratory results, and radiographs (X-ray procedures).
- Administer medications under supervision, and support critical care cases involving animals with complex medical needs.
- Operate imaging equipment like X-ray machines accurately while adhering to safety protocols.
Skills
- Proven experience with the ability to manage multiple animals in a busy setting.
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary critical care practices specifically in exotics.
- Skilled in animal handling techniques for birds and reptiles, and larger animals like ducks, chickens, and turkeys; and capable of performing animal restraint safely.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures including sample collection and analysis.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques essential for surgical preparation and wound management.
- Ability to interpret veterinary imaging (X-ray) results accurately.
