What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech-Language Pathologist position at Birchtree?
Birchtree supports individuals with autism and other diverse abilities by providing personalized education and outreach programs that promote inclusion, independence, and holistic growth. The Speech-Language Pathologist helps ensure that Birchtree’s Communication Program maintains a standard of excellence in special education, particularly in the context of students’ individualized instructional programming.
The Speech-Language Pathologist will demonstrate leadership in the creation, implementation, and overall supervision of our school’s Communication Program. This person will be responsible for evaluating and reevaluating students as needed to facilitate the development of IEPs and individualized communication programs. There will be ongoing collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., OTs, case managers, BCBAs) to promote success, a just-right challenge, and individual, student-specific educational programs. The Speech-Language Pathologist will integrate communication programming within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The Speech-Language Pathologist will consult with non-communication support personnel (Clinical Instructors) to achieve student outcomes, problem-solve challenges, and ensure best practice. The Speech-Language Pathologist will also provide continuing education and in-services for school personnel and parents. They are expected to complete documentation of service delivery, quarterly progress reports, and monthly billing logs. The successful candidate will become familiar with our electronic data collection and management system, which enables practitioners to collect a variety of data on mobile devices and access it online for analysis and reporting. The Speech-Language Pathologist will also attend scheduled meetings (e.g., IEP meetings, parent conferences, management meetings) as required.
A graduate degree from an accredited speech-language pathology professional program is required. Experience working with students with autism is preferred. Must be registered and/or eligible for certification by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and must hold a current license from the State of New Hampshire Office of Licensed Allied Health Professionals. Supervision available for CFY (Clinical Fellowship Year) applicants. Must be able to work effectively on a team, demonstrate computer literacy, multitask, and have excellent communication skills (written and spoken).
To perform essential functions of the job, the SLP must be physically capable of standing, stretching, bending, walking, running, and lifting/transporting a minimum of 60 lbs. Must be capable of moving and thinking quickly under stressful situations and able to function in a fast-paced environment.
