Position Overview
Birch Agency is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) to support students in a school-based setting in Kingstree, South Carolina.
Working under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Special Services and the Therapy Services Facilitator, the Occupational Therapist will collaborate with district staff, parents, and students to provide diagnostic and intervention services for students with occupational, fine motor, sensory, and visual motor challenges that impact academic performance and functional independence.
This position provides comprehensive school-based occupational therapy services, including assessments, evaluations, intervention and treatment, IEP planning and implementation, discharge planning, documentation, and ongoing collaboration with teachers, teacher assistants, related service providers, and families.

Key Responsibilities
Evaluate referred students by assessing:
Fine motor skills
Visual motor and visual perceptual skills
Sensory processing
Self-help skills
Oral motor skills
Range of motion
Muscle strength
Muscle tone
Functional performance within the educational setting
Administer standardized occupational therapy assessments and interpret evaluation results.
Communicate evaluation findings and recommendations with parents, teachers, and multidisciplinary team members.
Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans based on evaluation results and student needs.
Provide direct occupational therapy services designed to improve students' academic participation, independence, and functional performance.
Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, implementation, progress monitoring, and required updates.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop accommodations, intervention strategies, and recommendations for adaptive equipment.
Train students in the safe and effective use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology.
Select, recommend, order, and maintain adaptive equipment based on individual student needs.
Participate as a member of the Assistive Technology Team when appropriate.
Provide training and consultation to teachers, teacher assistants, and school staff regarding occupational therapy strategies and classroom interventions.
Assist in establishing transportation protocols for students with special needs when appropriate.
Supervise the safe transportation of students to and from occupational therapy sessions as needed.
Prepare and maintain accurate documentation including:
Evaluation reports
Daily treatment notes
Progress reports
Quarterly Medicaid summaries
IEP documentation
Required district and state compliance records
Maintain current knowledge of best practices, research, and emerging trends in pediatric and school-based occupational therapy through continuing education, workshops, conferences, and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy required; Master's degree preferred.
Current, valid South Carolina Occupational Therapy License through the South Carolina Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) Board required.
School-based or pediatric occupational therapy experience preferred.
Experience conducting occupational therapy evaluations and implementing intervention plans within educational settings preferred.
Strong knowledge of:
Occupational therapy assessment and treatment techniques
Fine motor and visual motor development
Sensory integration principles
Assistive technology and adaptive equipment
IEP development and implementation
School-based special education services
Excellent communication, organization, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Ability to supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants as assigned.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, families, educators, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
